The 2022 Australian Somali (AUSOM) Awards Night was a memorable evening dedicated to recognising the outstanding individuals and organisations who made a lasting difference to the Somali community across Victoria during one of the most challenging periods in recent history.

Hosted by Somali Community Inc. (SCI), the event celebrated the dedication, compassion, and leadership of community volunteers, frontline workers, healthcare professionals, service providers, religious leaders, youth leaders, and local organisations whose commitment helped support families and strengthen our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The evening brought together a diverse group of distinguished guests, including:

  • Members of Parliament
  • Local councillors
  • Victoria Police representatives
  • Healthcare professionals
  • Community and religious leaders
  • Mothers and family representatives
  • Youth leaders
  • Community members and volunteers

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a meaningful celebration of resilience, service, and unity.

Honouring the Mothers of Our Community

A special tribute was paid to the mothers within our community, whose unwavering support, compassion, and strength have been the foundation of countless families. Their dedication, often behind the scenes, continues to inspire future generations and strengthen the fabric of our community.

Recognising Our Community Heroes

The challenges of the previous two years demonstrated the importance of working together. From delivering essential support to vulnerable families to providing information, encouragement, and leadership during uncertain times, our community heroes showed extraordinary commitment.

The AUSOM Awards Night recognised these contributions and celebrated the spirit of volunteerism, service, and unity that continues to define our community today.

Thank You

Somali Community Inc. sincerely thanks the National Australia Day Council for supporting this important event and helping make the evening possible.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to every volunteer, organiser, sponsor, supporter, and community member whose hard work and generosity contributed to the success of the event.

Together, we continue building a stronger, more connected, and more resilient Somali community across Victoria.
