Supporting our community through the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Somali Community Inc. (SCI) worked closely with government and local partners to help protect the health and wellbeing of vulnerable community members through our COVID-19 Community Response initiatives.

As part of this initiative, Somali Community Inc. distributed free Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) to individuals and families who faced barriers in accessing essential health resources. Priority was given to older adults, single-parent households, vulnerable families, and others experiencing financial hardship.

Each RAT kit included clear instructions to help community members safely use the tests and monitor their health at home. By improving access to testing, SCI helped families identify COVID-19 early, reduce community transmission, and make informed decisions to protect themselves and those around them.

This initiative formed part of our broader Community Support Services, which focused on delivering practical assistance, trusted health information, culturally appropriate guidance, and referrals throughout the pandemic.

We sincerely thank the Victorian Department of Health and Moonee Valley City Council for partnering with Somali Community Inc. to make this important community health initiative possible.
